The Yavin Open.

On Saturday the 4th of June, 414 X-Wing players showed up to take part in the largest tournament in the world. The 186th were down in strength, 21 of us all together.

I had decided to bring Jesper Hills' winning list from UK Nationals 2015, as I rather enjoy flying it.

IG-88B (36)
Push the Limit (3)
Advanced Sensors (3)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Autothrusters (2)
IG-2000 (0)

IG-88C (36)
Push the Limit (3)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Autothrusters (2)
IG-2000 (0)

Total: 99

Game 1

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Emperor Palpatine (8)

The Inquisitor (25)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
TIE/v1 (1)

"Wampa" (14)

"Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)

Total: 100

I deployed opposite the Shuttle, setting up to swing into the board to take out either Omega Leader or the Inquisitor, as they are rather annoying to take on in the end game. I manage to land some shots here and there thanks to Gunner, but IG-88B is taking the brunt of the return fire and gets put down to 1 hull remaining, however my opponent fails to take him out despite having everything pointing at him, and I manage to kill Wampa.

I then retreat IG-88B and IG-88C manages to put the pressure on with the Heavy Laser Cannon, taking out Omega Leader and Inquisitor. Then its only a matter of time until the poor Shuttle dies.

Result: 100 - 49

Game 2

IG-88B (36)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)
IG-2000 (0)

IG-88C (36)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)
IG-2000 (0)

Total: 100

While I have the advantage of being able to Focus and Evade every turn, he can freely use his dial, and Boost after seeing where I go, so it'll be a pretty close game.

We deployed in opposite corners and met in the middle, exchanging shots. I'm focusing on his IG-88B while he is focusing on my IG-88C. I end up losing IG-88C while my opponent loses IG-88B, so I'm feeling pretty confident, however I mess up and move into the corner, letting him get behind me. I try a risky white move while stressed to force him to overshoot but he ends up just in arc and takes me out.

Result: 75 - 100

Game 3

Boba Fett (Scum) (39)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Glitterstim (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Slave I (0)

Dengar (33)
Veteran Instincts (1)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Punishing One (12)

Total: 100

As usual we deploy in opposite corners and end up meeting in the middle. I have decided to go for Boba first, as i feel it is the easier target. I manage to strip his shields but then somehow I end up in better positions to take on Dengar then Boba, so switch to him. We are both playing rather cagey and the match ends up going to time. As the last round is called both of my ships are down to half health; however Dengar only has 2 health remaining and his Boba has 6 hull left. I manage to kill Dengar and put Boba to half health with the final shots of the round.

Result: 77 - 49

Game 4

Dash Rendar (36)
Push the Limit (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Outrider (5)

Miranda Doni (29)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2-D2 (Crew) (4)
Proximity Mines (3)

Total: 100

This was a list I wasn't pleased to see. I really hate flying against the new "Super Dash", as he's very hard to predict, and Miranda with her shield regeneration can be pretty hard to pin down, especially with PS6 ships.

I set up to try and take on Dash, however I switch to Miranda to try and put pressure on my opponent. After I strip her shields she runs away and regenerates while Dash comes in. We go to time, and I've managed to deal 4 damage to Dash while both of my IG's are on half health.

Result: 0 - 49

Game 5

"Howlrunner" (18)
Crack Shot (1)
Hull Upgrade (3)

Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Crack Shot (1)

Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Crack Shot (1)

Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Crack Shot (1)

Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Crack Shot (1)

Omega Squadron Pilot (17)
Draw Their Fire (1)

Total: 100

So currently I'm on 2-2, and I face a list thats very similar to the one that beat me in my last game at the Warboar regional. Revenge shall be mine!

As usual we set up in opposite corners, I move in and manage to kill the Omega Squadron Pilot in the first engagement. I then draw out his crack shots as once they've been spent I can figure out the maths better. We circle around each other. I slowly pick off his ships while he tries and fails to put any more damage onto my Aggressors.

I manage to wipe him out while both of my ships are alive but at half points (both having suffered a single Direct Hit). My opponent had suffered 6 out of 7 Direct Hit cards during that game!

Result: 100 - 49

Game 6

IG-88B (36)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)
IG-2000 (0)

IG-88C (36)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)
IG-2000 (0)

Total: 100

I had a sense of deja-vu here, as I'd already played this list in round two! I decided to go for the enemy IG-88B again. This time my opponent decided to joust me, as it was the 6th game at the end of a long day. We end up dancing around and slowly but surely landing hits on each other.

Until suddenly both our IG-88B's die. I then completely blank out with my green dice and IG-88C dies - much to the shock of us and the few people watching!

Result: 75 - 100

So with day one of the Yavin Open over I have gone 3-3, missing out on the second day. However I have had six very enjoyable games, and it meant I could have a lie-in on day two, and then take part in the Hangar Bay tournament!
